Christmas 2017

Danke allen, die an Weihnachten in St. Finian’s und bei der Waldweihnacht waren! Wir haben das Kind im Stall besucht und dem Kind in uns nachgespürt: Sich das Leben schenken lassen, den Moment, den Augenblick; und das Schwere und Dunkle des Lebens sich abnehmen lassen. Darum geht es an Weihnachten. Viele von uns haben das erlebt. “Er wird ein Knecht und ich ein Herr, das mag ein Wechsel sein”,  so heißt es dazu im Lied “Lobt Gott ihr Christen alle gleich”.

Das Bild zeigt die Waldweihnacht am zweiten Weihnachtstag: Wanderung, Geschichte, Blick über Dublin, Weihnachtslieder am Feuer, Glühwein und Kakao, Gemeinschaft – Christmas in Carrickgollogan Forest.

Glencree German Remembrance Day

November 18th and 19th we celebrated the German Remembrance Day: Two seminars about a) Just Peace and Just War, b) Martin Luther’s Ethics and c) Reconciliation, one in the Lutherhaus, the other in Glencree Centre of Reconciliation.

On Sunday, 19th: Service with the German Military Bishop Dr. Sigurd Rink, Berlin (EKD)

Many people and bodies were involved: The Glencree Centre for Peace and Reconciliation, the German Embassy Dublin and the Lutheran Church als main Organisators. Military Dean Dr. Dirck Ackermann, Berlin as Speaker, as well as Barbara Walshe (Glencree), Bishop Dr. Sigurd Rink, Rev Ken Newell (Presbyterian Peace Maker from Belfast), Lionel Paradisi-Couluma, Deputy Head of Mission French Embassy, Chargé de Affairs of the German Embassy, Deputy Mr. Josef Reichhardt, Jorg Rütten, Colonel (GS) German Army Military Attaché.

The Goethe Institut Choir (Conductor John Dexter), Students from Curtlestown National School and from St.Kilian’s German School, the local Catholic Priest Fr. Bernard Kennedy and myself led through the service.

The official Wreath-laying at the Cemetery was led by Chargé de Affairs of the German Embassy, Deputy Mr. Josef Reichhardt.

November 11th: Traditional German St. Martin’s feast with Children’s role-play about the story of sharing the robe, creating own lanterns and then: A walk along Grand Canal with nearly 100 lanterns!
